If your patio in Reigate has become dirty, slippery, stained or covered in moss, algae and general grime, The Jet Wash Fella can help bring it back to a cleaner, fresher appearance.
With over 20 years of hands-on experience in exterior cleaning, I clean patios for homeowners, landlords and businesses across Reigate and the surrounding Surrey areas.
Every patio is different. Natural sandstone, porcelain, concrete, block paving and other paving materials all need the right cleaning method. I assess the surface first and choose the most appropriate combination of cleaning treatments, water pressure and equipment for the job.
PATIOS DON’T ALL NEED THE SAME TREATMENT — THE MATERIAL AND CONDITION OF THE SURFACE DETERMINE THE METHOD.
PROFESSIONAL PATIO CLEANING IN REIGATE
A patio can gradually become covered with dirt, algae, moss, lichen, weather staining and general outdoor grime. Shaded areas can be particularly prone to organic growth, while heavily used patios can develop ingrained dirt and staining.
A thorough professional clean can make a significant difference to the appearance of the whole garden.
I clean a wide range of patio surfaces, including:
- Natural sandstone
- Indian sandstone
- Limestone
- Concrete paving
- Block paving
- Porcelain paving
- Yorkstone
- Paved seating areas
- Garden paths and surrounding paved areas
- Swimming pool surrounds
The aim isn’t simply to use as much pressure as possible. The aim is to achieve a good clean while using a method suitable for the surface.
PATIO CLEANING FOR DIFFERENT SURFACES
NATURAL SANDSTONE PATIO CLEANING
Sandstone is one of the surfaces that requires particular care because it is relatively soft and porous.
I can use a specialist soft-wash treatment to help loosen organic contamination before carefully pressure cleaning the surface where appropriate. The treatment is allowed to dwell without drying out, helping to break down dirt, algae and other contamination before the patio is rinsed and cleaned.
I avoid unnecessarily aggressive cleaning methods on sandstone because excessive pressure can remove small areas of the stone and leave the surface uneven or damaged.
The objective is to clean the sandstone while retaining its natural colour and character.
PORCELAIN PATIO CLEANING
Outdoor porcelain can accumulate green algae, dirt, weathering and staining, particularly around joints and shaded areas.
Porcelain requires a different approach from porous natural stone. I assess the condition of the paving, joints and surrounding areas before deciding on the appropriate cleaning method.
BLOCK PAVED PATIOS
Block paving can become dirty and mossy over time, with weeds and organic growth developing between the joints.
Once the paving has been properly cleaned and allowed to dry, re-sanding can be considered where appropriate to replace lost jointing sand.
CONCRETE AND OTHER PAVING
Concrete and other paving materials can develop ingrained dirt, algae, moss and weather staining.
The cleaning method is adjusted according to the condition of the surface rather than simply applying maximum pressure across the whole patio.
WHAT CAN PATIO CLEANING REMOVE?
Depending on the surface and its condition, professional patio cleaning can help remove or significantly improve:
- Moss
- Algae
- Green organic growth
- Dirt and grime
- Weather staining
- Lichen
- Black spots and organic staining
- Weeds and debris
- Slippery surface contamination
- General discolouration
Some stains, particularly old oil, deep staining or marks that have penetrated the material, may not completely disappear. I always prefer to give an honest assessment rather than promise something that the surface may not allow.
MY PATIO CLEANING PROCESS
1. INSPECTION AND ASSESSMENT
Before cleaning begins, I look at the patio surface, its condition, the type of paving and any areas that may require particular care.
2. CLEARING AND PREPARATION
Loose debris, leaves, weeds and surface contamination are cleared where necessary so that the cleaning treatment can work properly.
3. PRE-TREATMENT
Where appropriate, a specialist cleaning solution or soft-wash treatment is applied to help break down algae, moss, lichen and other organic contamination.
On natural sandstone, I make sure the treatment is given enough time to work without allowing it to dry out.
4. CONTROLLED PRESSURE CLEANING
The patio is then carefully cleaned using suitable equipment and pressure for the particular surface.
I don’t believe that simply turning the pressure up produces a better result. Too much pressure can damage some paving materials.
5. RINSING AND CLEAN-UP
Once cleaning is complete, the area is thoroughly rinsed and surrounding areas are checked for dirt, debris and run-off.
6. RE-SANDING WHERE REQUIRED
For suitable block-paved areas, replacement kiln-dried sand can be brushed into the joints once the paving is sufficiently clean and dry.
WHY PATIO CLEANING CAN MAKE SUCH A DIFFERENCE
Your patio is often one of the largest hard surfaces in the garden, so when it becomes dirty it can make the whole outdoor area look tired.
Removing years of accumulated dirt, moss and algae can reveal much more of the original colour and character of the paving.
It can also make heavily contaminated areas feel cleaner underfoot, particularly where moss and algae have made the surface slippery.
The final appearance will always depend on the age, material, condition and previous treatment of the patio.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT PATIO CLEANING IN REIGATE
1. HOW MUCH DOES PATIO CLEANING COST IN REIGATE?
The price depends on the size of the patio, the type of paving, how heavily contaminated it is and whether additional treatments or re-sanding are required. The easiest way to get an accurate price is to send photographs or arrange a site visit.
2. CAN YOU CLEAN A VERY DIRTY PATIO?
Yes. Heavily neglected patios can often be cleaned successfully, although the final result depends on the material, age and condition of the paving.
3. CAN YOU CLEAN INDIAN SANDSTONE?
Yes. Sandstone is one of the surfaces I regularly clean. Because it is relatively soft and porous, I use an appropriate treatment and carefully controlled cleaning rather than simply blasting it with maximum pressure.
4. CAN YOU REMOVE BLACK SPOTS FROM SANDSTONE?
Specialist treatment can significantly improve black spot and lichen staining on sandstone. However, very established staining may not completely disappear, so I prefer to give realistic expectations before starting.
5. WILL PATIO CLEANING REMOVE MOSS AND ALGAE?
Cleaning can remove existing moss and algae from the surface. How quickly it returns depends on factors such as shade, moisture, drainage, surrounding vegetation and weather conditions.
6. CAN YOU CLEAN BLOCK PAVING?
Yes. Block-paved patios can be cleaned to remove dirt, moss, algae and other contamination. Re-sanding can also be carried out where appropriate.
7. DO YOU RE-SAND PATIOS AFTER CLEANING?
Where the patio is block paving and the joints require it, kiln-dried sand can be brushed back into the joints once the surface is sufficiently dry.
8. CAN YOU CLEAN PORCELAIN PAVING?
Yes. Porcelain needs a different approach from porous natural stone, so I assess the paving and joints before deciding on the appropriate cleaning method.
9. CAN PRESSURE WASHING DAMAGE A PATIO?
It can if the wrong pressure, nozzle or cleaning method is used. Some paving materials are more delicate than others, which is why I assess the surface before cleaning.
10. WILL PATIO CLEANING REMOVE EVERY STAIN?
Not necessarily. Some deep or old staining can remain after cleaning, particularly where contamination has penetrated the material. I won’t promise complete removal of stains that may not be possible to remove safely.
11. CAN YOU CLEAN A SLIPPERY PATIO?
Yes. Moss, algae and other organic contamination can contribute to a slippery surface. Removing the contamination can make the area cleaner and improve its condition underfoot.
12. HOW LONG DOES PATIO CLEANING TAKE?
It depends on the size and condition of the patio and the type of paving. Smaller areas may be completed relatively quickly, while larger or heavily contaminated patios can take considerably longer.
13. DO YOU CLEAN PATIO WALLS AND PATHS TOO?
Yes. If you have paths, steps, walls or other exterior surfaces around the patio, I can assess these at the same time.
14. DO YOU OFFER PATIO CLEANING OUTSIDE REIGATE?
Yes. I cover Reigate and surrounding Surrey areas including Redhill, Horley, Dorking, Oxted, Godstone, Smallfield and surrounding villages.
15. CAN YOU GIVE ME A QUOTE FROM PHOTOS?
In many cases, yes. Sending clear photographs of the patio can give me a good idea of the size, material and condition before arranging a visit.
16. HOW DO I BOOK A PATIO CLEANING QUOTE?
Simply get in touch with The Jet Wash Fella by phone, email or through the website. Send photographs if you can, and I’ll arrange the next step.
