Is your patio in Redhill looking tired, dirty, green or covered in moss, algae and years of outdoor grime?
The Jet Wash Fella provides professional patio cleaning in Redhill and the surrounding Surrey areas, helping homeowners and businesses bring tired-looking patios back to a cleaner, fresher appearance.
With over 20 years of hands-on experience in exterior cleaning, I have worked on all sorts of outdoor surfaces and understand that the material you’re cleaning determines the method you should use.
Natural sandstone, block paving, concrete and porcelain all have different characteristics. A good patio clean isn’t simply about using the most powerful pressure washer possible — it’s about knowing how to clean the surface properly.
PROFESSIONAL PATIO CLEANING IN REDHILL
Patios spend all year exposed to the British weather.
Rain, shade, fallen leaves, dirt, algae, moss and general use can gradually change the appearance of your paving. Areas that stay damp or receive little sunlight can be particularly prone to green growth, while older patios can develop ingrained dirt and weather staining.
A professional clean can make a dramatic difference to the appearance of the area.
I clean a wide range of patio surfaces across Redhill, including:
- Natural sandstone
- Indian sandstone
- Limestone
- Concrete paving
- Block paving
- Porcelain paving
- Yorkstone
- Other natural stone paving
- Garden paths and paved areas
- Patio areas around swimming pools
PATIO CLEANING THAT SUITS THE SURFACE
There isn’t one cleaning method that is right for every patio.
Before starting, I look at the material, condition, joints, previous cleaning and the type of contamination present. This helps determine the most suitable combination of treatment, pressure and equipment.
NATURAL SANDSTONE PATIO CLEANING
Sandstone is one of the materials where experience really matters.
Natural sandstone is porous and relatively soft compared with many manufactured paving materials. Using excessive pressure can remove small layers of the stone or leave the surface uneven.
My approach can include a specialist soft-wash treatment followed by carefully controlled pressure cleaning where appropriate.
The treatment is allowed to work on the contamination before the surface is cleaned, helping to loosen dirt, algae, moss and other organic growth.
The aim is to reveal the natural colour and character of the sandstone rather than simply trying to blast the surface clean.
BLOCK PAVED PATIO CLEANING
Block paving can become particularly untidy when moss and weeds develop in the joints.
A thorough clean can remove surface dirt, moss, algae and accumulated grime. Once the paving has been cleaned and is sufficiently dry, re-sanding can also be considered where jointing sand has been lost.
CONCRETE PATIO CLEANING
Concrete paving can develop years of weathering, dirt, algae and organic growth.
The correct cleaning method depends on the condition of the concrete. Older or weathered slabs may require more care than a relatively new surface.
PORCELAIN PATIO CLEANING
Outdoor porcelain is different again.
Although porcelain paving is generally hard-wearing, the joints and surrounding areas can still become contaminated with algae, dirt and organic growth.
I assess porcelain paving before cleaning rather than treating it in exactly the same way as natural stone.
WHAT CAN PATIO CLEANING REMOVE?
Depending on the material and condition of the patio, professional cleaning can help remove or significantly improve:
- Moss
- Algae
- Green organic growth
- Lichen
- Dirt and grime
- Weather staining
- Surface contamination
- Black organic staining
- Weeds and loose debris
- Slippery organic build-up
Some old or deep staining may remain after cleaning. Oil, paint, rust and other contaminants can sometimes penetrate into paving, so I always prefer to give an honest assessment rather than promise that every mark will disappear.
MY PATIO CLEANING PROCESS IN REDHILL
1. ASSESSING THE PATIO
I first look at the paving and identify the material, condition and type of contamination.
This is particularly important with natural stone, older paving and surfaces that have previously been pressure cleaned.
2. PREPARING THE AREA
Loose debris, leaves, weeds and surface contamination are cleared where necessary.
3. SPECIALIST PRE-TREATMENT
Where appropriate, a specialist cleaning treatment is applied to help break down organic contamination such as algae, moss and lichen.
For sandstone, particular care is taken to ensure the treatment has time to work without being allowed to dry on the surface.
4. CAREFULLY CONTROLLED CLEANING
The patio is then cleaned using equipment and pressure appropriate to the paving.
I don’t believe that maximum pressure automatically produces maximum results.
The objective is to remove the contamination effectively while taking the condition and characteristics of the paving into account.
5. FINAL RINSE AND CLEAN-UP
After cleaning, the area is thoroughly rinsed and the surrounding area checked for remaining dirt and debris.
6. RE-SANDING WHERE APPROPRIATE
For suitable block-paved patios, kiln-dried sand can be brushed back into the joints after cleaning once the surface is sufficiently dry.
BLACK SPOTS, LICHEN AND STUBBORN STAINING
Black spotting is particularly common on some natural stone patios, including sandstone.
These marks can be associated with lichen, organic contamination and long-term weathering. They can be among the most stubborn forms of patio staining.
Specialist treatment and careful cleaning can significantly improve their appearance, but complete removal isn’t always possible.
The condition and age of the stone make a difference, as does how long the contamination has been present.
CAN A VERY NEGLECTED PATIO BE CLEANED?
Yes, many patios that look beyond saving can be transformed considerably with the right approach.
A patio that hasn’t been cleaned for years may have several layers of contamination built up on the surface.
However, the final result depends on what the paving is made from and its condition.
Old sandstone, cracked slabs, damaged pointing, deep staining and previously damaged surfaces may limit what can safely be achieved.
Sometimes the best result comes from several stages of treatment rather than trying to remove everything in one aggressive clean.
PATIO CLEANING AND SLIPPERY SURFACES
Moss and algae can make outdoor paving unpleasant and slippery, particularly during wet weather.
Cleaning removes the existing organic contamination from the surface, helping to improve the condition of the patio.
However, regrowth can occur. Shade, moisture, drainage, nearby trees and the surrounding environment can all influence how quickly organic growth returns.
RE-SANDING BLOCK PAVED PATIOS
If your patio is made from block paving, cleaning can leave the joints looking bare where years of weathering, weeds and previous cleaning have removed the sand.
Where appropriate, I can re-sand the joints using kiln-dried sand after the paving has been cleaned.
This can give the finished patio a much tidier appearance.
The condition and size of the joints are assessed first, as not every paving surface is suitable for exactly the same treatment.
BEFORE & AFTER PATIO CLEANING IN REDHILL
One of the best ways to see what professional patio cleaning can achieve is to compare the surface before and after cleaning.
A particularly good example is natural sandstone.
When dirt, algae and weathering are removed carefully, the original colours and character of the stone can become much more visible.
The difference can be remarkable — but the aim is always to work with the material rather than against it.

OVER 20 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
I’ve been working in exterior cleaning for more than 20 years, giving me extensive experience with different paving materials and cleaning conditions.
EXPERIENCE WITH DELICATE SURFACES
Not every patio should be attacked with maximum pressure.
Understanding the surface is just as important as having powerful equipment.
HONEST ADVICE
If I don’t think something can be safely removed, I’ll tell you.
I’d rather give you an honest assessment before starting than promise a result that the paving may not be capable of producing.
PROFESSIONAL EQUIPMENT
I use professional pressure-cleaning equipment and specialist cleaning treatments appropriate to the surface being cleaned.
LOCAL REDHILL SERVICE
I’m based in Crawley and regularly work throughout Redhill, Reigate and the surrounding Surrey areas.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT PATIO CLEANING IN REDHILL
1. WHAT TYPES OF PATIOS DO YOU CLEAN IN REDHILL?
I clean natural sandstone, Indian sandstone, limestone, concrete, block paving, porcelain, Yorkstone and other suitable outdoor paving surfaces.
2. CAN YOU CLEAN A VERY DIRTY OR NEGLECTED PATIO?
Yes. Many heavily weathered patios can be significantly improved with the correct cleaning process. The final result depends on the material, age and condition of the paving.
3. CAN YOU CLEAN SANDSTONE PATIOS?
Yes. Sandstone requires particular care because it is porous and relatively soft. I can use specialist treatment followed by carefully controlled pressure cleaning where appropriate.
4. CAN YOU REMOVE BLACK SPOTS FROM SANDSTONE?
Specialist treatment can improve black spotting and lichen staining considerably. However, very established staining may not completely disappear.
5. WILL YOU USE HIGH PRESSURE ON MY PATIO?
The pressure used depends on the surface and its condition. I don’t simply use maximum pressure everywhere. The equipment and cleaning method are adjusted to suit the material.
6. CAN YOU REMOVE MOSS AND ALGAE?
Yes. Existing moss, algae and other organic contamination can generally be removed as part of the cleaning process. Future regrowth depends on conditions such as shade, moisture and drainage.
7. DO YOU CLEAN BLOCK PAVED PATIOS?
Yes. Block paving can be cleaned to remove dirt, moss, algae and other contamination. Re-sanding can also be considered where appropriate.
8. CAN YOU RE-SAND THE JOINTS AFTER CLEANING?
Yes. Where suitable, kiln-dried sand can be brushed back into the joints once the block paving is clean and sufficiently dry.
9. CAN YOU CLEAN PORCELAIN PATIOS?
Yes. Porcelain paving can be cleaned, but it requires a different approach from porous natural stone. The paving and joints are assessed before cleaning.
10. CAN PATIO CLEANING DAMAGE MY PAVING?
Incorrect pressure, equipment or cleaning methods can damage some surfaces. This is why I assess the paving first and choose the method according to the material and condition.
11. WILL PATIO CLEANING REMOVE EVERY STAIN?
No cleaning company should promise that every stain will disappear. Some oil, rust, paint and deeply ingrained staining can remain even after professional cleaning.
12. HOW LONG DOES PATIO CLEANING TAKE?
It depends on the size, material and condition of the patio. A small patio may take only a few hours, while larger or heavily contaminated areas can take considerably longer.
13. CAN YOU CLEAN PATHS AND STEPS AT THE SAME TIME?
Yes. If you have adjoining paths, steps or other suitable paved areas, these can be assessed and cleaned as part of the same job.
14. DO YOU CLEAN PATIOS AROUND REDHILL?
Yes. I regularly cover Redhill, Earlswood, Redstone Hill, Meadvale, Merstham, Salfords, Whitebushes, South Nutfield and surrounding areas.
15. DO YOU CLEAN COMMERCIAL PATIOS?
Yes. I can clean suitable outdoor areas for businesses, hospitality properties, communal spaces and other commercial premises.
16. CAN I SEND PHOTOS FOR A QUOTE?
Yes. Clear photographs can be very useful for assessing the size, material and condition of your patio before arranging a quote.
